I Survived Highway 50

From I Survived Highway 50

Well, I actually got in the mail today my certificate, suitable for framing, and pin from the Nevada Tourism Commission that says "I Survived Highway 50.

The pin is sort of lame. Doesn't even say I survived.

Thanks - I have read about your adventure and I have, not exactly wasted, but certainly used up nearly an entire day reading about your fabulous adventure. The journey is the best part, getting there is so much more than half the fun. Your

It is easy to take for granted in a free country that we can simply take off for a few days and see our relatively small portion of this planet. I am planning a trip to Beijing China in December, but the legal side is a nightmare. It is almost as if the Chinese don't really want foreigners roaming free around the country independently on their Vespa Scooters.

Whereas in the good ol' USA, or in my case Australia, one can simply pack a few necessities, give the wallet a quick pat check for that full, almost compressible, can bend slightly feeling, squeeze the brake and hit the starter and zoom off past the far horizon without even telling anyone, the Chinese, on the other hand, would like the honour of granting you permission to traverse the place they call the middle land. This can be a lengthy process.

btw - I did get my scooter back after 37 days. Now, when I ride it, it feels like flying a Cessna and I have to think about where to put it down if the engine stops. I am sure my confidence in Vespa Scooters will increase in direct proportion to the time between failures. Reading about your 8000 miles has reminded me that Vespa Scooters are made to last and that my unfortunate electrical failure was a one-in-a-million occurrence.
